C Programming Language
Introduction
C is a powerful general-purpose programming language. It can be used to develop software like operating systems, databases, compilers, and so on. C programming is an excellent language to learn to program for beginners. One cool feature of C is that it supports features of both low level and high level programming languages.

Uses
C programming language is the only programming language in the IOE Civil Engineering Syllabus. Hence, it is used throughout the undergrad years in the following ways:
- It is enlisted in the programming course itself in 1st
- In 3rd and 4th semester students are encouraged to automate trial and error problems and other problems of fluid flow in Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics using C.
- It is required again in 5th semester in Numerical Methods for building computer programs for numerical computations.
(Programming is a very powerful skill to have at your disposal. Hence, students are expected to know in detail at least one programming language! )

CESS Recommendation for Undergrads:
Programming is a very powerful skill to have at your disposal. Hence all civil engineering students are recommended to have sound knowledge of C programming language at least. They are free to explore other PLs in their own time.

System Requirements:
There are no minimum system requirements in particular to run the compiler. Any operating system above Microsoft® Windows 95 or Microsoft® Windows XP with minimum RAM (32MB for Dev C++ and 512MB for Code::Blocks) and disk space can run the program efficiently
