HEC-RAS
Introduction
HEC-RAS is a software that models the hydraulics of water flow through natural rivers and other channels.

Uses
HEC-RAS is a computer program for modeling water flowing through systems of open channels and computing water surface profiles. HEC-RAS finds particular commercial application in floodplain management and [flood insurance] studies to evaluate floodway encroachments. Some of the additional uses are: bridge and culvert design and analysis, levee studies, and channel modification studies. It can be used for dam breach analysis, though other modeling methods are presently more widely accepted for this purpose. In summary it is used in study of:
- Steady flow models
- Unsteady flow models
- Sediment transport models
- Water quality anaylsis

- Shallow Water Equations (SWE) or Diffusion Wave Equations (DWE) in 2D

System Requirements:
- An Intel I5 or higher is recommended. If you are going to perform 2D modeling, then a machine with multiple cores is recommended).
- At least 1 GB of free space (10 GB is recommended)
- A minimum of 8 GB of RAM if using Windows 7, Windows 8, or windows 10
- Color Video Display (Recommend running in Super VGA (1024x768) or higher.
HEC-RAS Version 5.0.4 and newer will only run on 64-bit Windows operating systems, including 64-bit versions of Windows 7, 8.0, 8.1, and 10

Thank you, what are your thought about other products like: AutoCAD, Microstation, CivilGEO etc.? I’ve heard they are easy to use when compared to USACE HEC-RAS
